For FY23, the United States Department of Justice has up to $73 million in funding for the School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP). Each award will be three years in duration, and the maximum federal share per award is $500,000 with a local cost share requirement of at least 25%.
The SVPP funding can be used for various safety measures in and around K-12 schools and school grounds. These measures include coordination with law enforcement, training for local law enforcement officers to prevent student violence against others and self, metal detectors, locks, lighting, and other deterrent measures and technology for expedited notification of local law enforcement during an emergency, and any other measure that provides a significant improvement in security.
